About Andrew

Hello! My name is Andrew Priestley.

About me: I have a deep love for the beaches and bushland areas of Kingston.

I grew up locally, and I now live in Kingston where I support my wife, who is serving in the military, and my two beautiful daughters.

I’m a stay-at-home dad, and a local swim instructor. I previously worked as a journalist and have expertise in government policy and communication.

Fun fact: In my spare time, I enjoy ocean swimming, and I swam 100km over summer to raise funds for the bushfire relief effort, finishing with the Club2Club swim from Edithvale to Aspendale.

“Andrew Priestley… volunteer and all-round legend!”

“I can honestly say Andrew is a ray of sunshine for our local community.

He’s the kind of person who goes above and beyond.

Andrew is exactly the leader you want representing you on council”

Tamsin Bearsley, Councillor and Previous Mayor for City of Kingston

Frequently Asked Questions

What are your skills and experience?

I used to work as a journalist and reported extensively on local councils as well as state and federal politics.

I have seen what makes councils function really badly, and what makes them function really well. I want to use this knowledge and experience to the benefit of our local community.

I have a Masters of Politics and Public Policy, focusing on the formation and implementation of effective governance.

I am now a stay-at-home dad to look after my two daughters and support my wife in the military. I work part-time as a swim instructor.

Are you a member of any political party?

I am a member of the Liberal Party. Importantly, I’m an independent candidate, meaning I’m not funded by any political party, union or political organisation. I answer only to the people of Sandpiper and Kingston.

Why are you running for Council election?

The local community has enriched my life and that of my family so much. Now, I want to give back.

There are so many opportunities on local council to improve the lives of our residents. I want to bring my skills and experience to bear for the benefit of the community.

I also believe the south of Kingston deserves so much better from Council when it comes to facilities like sports grounds; shopping strips; bike paths and pathways; playgrounds; and open space areas.

I want to fight to ensure Council delivers for the people of Edithvale, Aspendale Gardens and Chelsea Heights.

Where do you live?

I live in Mordialloc. I am a local Kingston resident and am running to serve my local community.

A core reason I’m running for Council is to address the deficiency in facilities and infrastructure – particularly in the south of Kingston compared to other parts of the LGA. I want to change that, and the most effective way to do this is run where the problem needs fixing.
